In the heart of every scout beats the spirit of adventure, service, and camaraderie. Since its inception in 1907 by Lord Baden-Powell, scouting has evolved into a global movement, shaping the lives of millions worldwide. Here in Kenya, the scouting flame burns bright, with a vision to empower four million scouts by year-end, a testament to the enduring impact of this noble tradition.
For primary school learners, scouting is more than just an extracurricular activity; it’s a transformative journey. Through scouting, young minds are nurtured, skills are honed, and values are instilled, shaping the leaders and change makers of tomorrow. The journey begins early, with members as young as six years old, embarking on adventures that foster independence, resilience, and a sense of responsibility.
Founder’s Day, a cherished occasion in the scouting calendar, honors the visionary spirit of Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting. This year, under the theme “5 Billion Trees for Founder’s Day,” our school’s Scouts Club joined fellow scouts from across Lang’ata subcounty to commemorate this special day with a flurry of activities aimed at promoting climate action and community service.
At Rowallan Scouts Centre, the air was abuzz with excitement as scouts engaged in tree planting, a tangible symbol of their commitment to preserving the environment. Amidst drills, face painting, and spirited dancing, the spirit of camaraderie and shared purpose filled the air, as scouts reveled in the joy of making a difference.
In the midst of the festivities, we pause to recognize the exemplary dedication of Teacher Everlyn, whose unwavering commitment to scouting has been nothing short of inspirational. Completing the Three Faces of Wood Badge Training, Teacher Everlyn has reached the pinnacle of leadership within the scouting community, embodying the values of mentorship, service, and continuous learning. With pride and admiration, we salute her remarkable achievement, knowing that her impact will resonate for years to come.
As Lord Baden-Powell once said, “Once a scout, always a scout.” These words ring true as we celebrate Founder’s Day, a testament to the enduring legacy of scouting and its ability to inspire generations to leave the world a better place than they found it. Today, as we honor the founders of scouting and the timeless values they imparted, let us renew our commitment to service, leadership, and the boundless potential of youth.
In closing, we extend our warmest wishes to scouts everywhere, as we unite in celebration of Founder’s Day. May the spirit of scouting continue to illuminate our path forward, guiding us towards a brighter, more inclusive future.
Happy Founder’s Day, Scouts!
