A wave of anticipation swept through the Aquatic Centre on Saturday, February 10, 2024, as we welcomed 26 schools to the fiercely contested Kasarani Cluster Schools Senior Swimming Gala. Excitement crackled in the air as competitors gathered for a day of exhilarating competition and camaraderie.
In the weeks leading up to the gala, our swim squad underwent intensive training sessions, culminating in a frigid Friday morning that showcased their unwavering dedication. Their tireless efforts set the stage for an unforgettable event.
The day dawned early, with buses streaming into our school compound from as early as 6:00 am. The parking squad attendants orchestrated a symphony of order, aligning the buses in disciplined rows that mirrored the spirit of the competition.
Warm-up sessions commenced promptly at 7:15 am, setting the tempo for the day ahead. By 9:00 am, the gala was in full swing, with a solemn word of prayer marking the official commencement. As the sun cast its golden rays and the waters shimmered like liquid silver, anticipation reached a fever pitch.
Swimming marshals closely monitored competitors, their handheld stopwatches poised to capture every split-second moment. Meanwhile, the master of ceremony orchestrated proceedings with eloquence, seamlessly guided by the DJ’s melodic transitions that kept spirits high and toes tapping.
Behind the scenes, the culinary team worked tirelessly to ensure that delicious food and refreshments were readily available, while the security detail maintained unwavering watchfulness, ensuring the safety and security of all present.
The swimming pool emerged as the epicentre of the event, with spectators congregating on the dias and perched along the sidelines to cheer on their respective teams. Each school’s cheering squad infused the atmosphere with infectious energy, their vibrant dances and spirited chants reverberating throughout the venue.
Our school’s cheering contingent, a dynamic ensemble comprising parents teachers, and learners, led the charge with their effervescent enthusiasm. Led by the spirited duo of Teacher Diana and Teacher Millicent, with the unmistakable presence of Baba Dawe and Tr. Everlyn on the vuvuzela, transformed the atmosphere into a frenzy of exuberance and encouragement. With each beat and chant, they fueled the fire of determination in both competitors and spectators, igniting a palpable sense of excitement.
Not to be outdone, the learners’ cheering squad, led by Jasmine Mburu, Army Wambua, Diana Peace, and Noela Ochieng, rallied their peers with unwavering support and fervent encouragement.
As the tension mounted, school principals present observed with bated breath as their learners competed valiantly in the pool. When the final scores were tallied, The All Saints’ Cathedral School emerged triumphant, amassing a staggering 1,184 points to clinch the coveted overall championship title.
Our girls’ team further distinguished themselves, clinching position one overall and securing yet another trophy for our illustrious collection.
