In a sea of excitement and anticipation, the Kasarani Cluster Schools Swimming Gala for 9 and under made quite the splash on Saturday, February 3, 2024. With a whopping 18 schools diving into the action, the competition was fierce, the energy electric, and the atmosphere simply bubbling with enthusiasm.
As the sun began its ascent, buses laden with eager learners began trickling into our school compound as early as 7:00 a.m. With spirited renditions of pump-up songs echoing through the air, the stage was set for a day of aquatic prowess and friendly rivalry.
At the stroke of 9:00 am, the gala commenced with a reverent word of prayer, setting the tone for the day’s festivities. Mr. David Muriuki, our esteemed school principal, extended a warm welcome to all participants, ushering in a wave of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Under the guidance of the indomitable Coach Ken from the Sports Academy, competitors received their directives and rules, ready to plunge headfirst into the action.
But what’s a sporting event without a bit of rousing cheer? Enter our school’s cheering squad, a dynamic ensemble comprising parents, teachers, and learners alike. Led by the spirited duo of Teacher Diana and Teacher Felistus, with the unmistakable presence of Baba Dawe on the vuvuzela, they transformed the atmosphere into a frenzy of exuberance and encouragement. With each beat and chant, they fueled the fire of determination in both competitors and spectators, igniting a palpable sense of excitement.
Meanwhile, the vigilant swimming marshals kept a keen eye on the competitors, their stopwatches poised for precision timing. As the master of ceremonies eloquently called forth each participant, the DJ seamlessly orchestrated a symphony of tunes, ensuring a seamless flow of energy throughout the event.

And the moment of truth arrived as the final scores were tallied:

  1. Sukari Presbyterian Academy: 1,252 points
  2. All Saints Cathedral: 744 points
  3. Lizzie Prep Junior School: 470 points
  4. Mountain View School: 430 points
  5. Carmelvale Catholic Junior School: 375 points

In a dazzling display of skill and determination, our school’s swimming team clinched the second position, proudly hoisting a gleaming trophy aloft and claiming a treasure trove of medals across various categories. Coaches Grace and Changa stood tall as they received the accolades, each medal a testament to their unwavering dedication and passion for the sport.

Among our standout achievements were the stellar performances in the relay events.

The individual events saw remarkable performances from our talented swimmers:

  • Yara Mbugua showcased her prowess by clinching gold in the 25-meter freestyle and bronze in the 25-meter freestyle kickboard.
  • Nailah Saib demonstrated her skill with silver medals in both the 25-meter freestyle and the 25-meter backstrokes.
  • Leelan Farshia secured a bronze medal in the 25-meter freestyle.
  • Zara Amelia impressed with a bronze medal in the freestyle kickboard.
  • Mackenzie Arianna displayed her talent with a bronze medal in the 25-meter backstrokes.

In the team events, our swimmers displayed remarkable teamwork and skill:

  • The girls’ team, comprising Arianna Mackenzie, Nailah Saib, Lexie Mueni, and Alma Geno, secured silver in both the medley and freestyle relays.
  • The boys’ teams, consisting of Mathenge Njiru, Benjamin Kihara, Leelan Farshia, Wachira Gikuhi, Ian Kigen, Samuel Ama, Morgan Saha, and Nail Saib, earned commendable bronze and silver in the medley relay and silver in the freestyle relay.
  • Additionally, the mixed freestyle relay team, featuring Morgan Saha, Mathenge Njiru, Arianna Mackenzie, and Nailah Saib, clinched the bronze medal, highlighting exceptional teamwork and coordination.

But the celebration didn’t stop there! As the cheers reverberated and the confetti danced through the air, our victorious swimmers broke into an epic dance frenzy. From jubilant twirls to high-flying jumps, they exuded the pure essence of victory, infusing the air with an infectious sense of joy and triumph.

And as we bask in the glow of our achievements, we eagerly anticipate the next wave of excitement. This Saturday, February 10, 2024, we invite the entire school community to join us once again as we host yet another MEGA Swimming Gala, this time for ages 10 and over.

Come and witness the incredible talent and fierce competition as our swimmers take to the pool to showcase their skills. From exhilarating races to breathtaking displays of athleticism, it promises to be an event not to be missed. So mark your calendars, spread the word, and prepare to be amazed as we dive headfirst into another unforgettable chapter of aquatic excellence. See you at the poolside!
